Walk-In
GRP Kiosks
Large format GRP kiosks for substations, BESS, RMU and major infrastructure.
When the equipment inside is too valuable — or too hazardous — to leave in a standard cabinet, a walk-in GRP kiosk enclosure is the answer. Available in standard footprints from 2000×500mm through to 3000×2900mm — or specified to your exact dimensions — our GRP kiosk UK range covers the full spectrum of utility, infrastructure, telecoms, and industrial requirements. IP65-rated as standard. Design-load certified. Electrical fit-out options available. UK stock, next-day delivery.

Where Walk-In GRP Kiosks Are Used
Electrical Substations & Ring Main Units (RMU)
Walk-in kiosks are the standard housing choice for 11kV and LV substations across UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). The GRP shell is non-conductive, eliminating any risk of accidental earthing through the enclosure structure — a key safety requirement on live electrical sites. Our kiosks meet typical UKPN specification: minimum 4.5mm GRP, Class 2 fire rating (30 minutes), stainless steel ironmongery, and provision for anti-condensation heating. Fully assembled units arrive ready to crane onto a prepared concrete plinth, or specify flat-pack panels for restricted-access sites.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
As the UK’s renewable energy grid expands, walk-in GRP kiosks are increasingly specified as the outer housing for containerised BESS installations. GRP’s non-conductive and non-sparking properties make it well-suited to lithium-ion battery environments where electrostatic risk must be minimised. Our ply-core construction models offer additional structural rigidity for equipment-heavy BESS fit-outs, and we can integrate ventilation louvres, explosion-relief roof panels, and internal lighting as part of the order.
Water & Wastewater — Pump Stations & Chemical Dosing
Water utilities and infrastructure contractors use walk-in GRP kiosks to house pump control panels, chemical dosing equipment, telemetry units, and SCADA terminals at unmanned remote sites. GRP’s corrosion resistance is critical here — chlorine, hydrogen sulphide, and the damp underground atmosphere of a pump station will destroy an unprotected steel cabinet in years; GRP is unaffected. Low maintenance, no repainting, no rust. Suitable for Thames Water, Severn Trent, United Utilities, and other AMP-cycle framework specifications.
Telecoms & Fibre Network Infrastructure
Street-level and roadside telecoms deployments — from FTTP street cabinets to 5G base station ancillary housing — require enclosures that are weatherproof, non-conductive, and visually unobtrusive. Walk-in GRP kiosks provide the space needed to house active equipment, power systems, and battery backup in a single unit, without the RF interference issues associated with steel. Specify in RAL colours to match local authority requirements or blend with street furniture. Suitable for Openreach, Virgin Media O2, and independent ISP infrastructure programmes.
Industrial Control Rooms & Process Plant
On manufacturing sites, chemical plants, and offshore-adjacent facilities, walk-in GRP kiosks serve as compact control rooms housing PLCs, HMIs, MCC panels, and instrumentation. Where the surrounding environment involves corrosive chemicals, GRP outlasts painted steel by a significant margin and eliminates the need for periodic blasting and re-coating. For ATEX-adjacent applications (Zone 2 perimeter), pair with our ATEX-certified GRP enclosures for equipment mounted outside the kiosk itself.
EV Charging Infrastructure & Grid Connection Points
The rapid rollout of high-powered EV charging hubs requires on-site grid connection equipment — transformers, switchgear, protection relays — that must be safely and attractively housed at car parks, motorway services, and fleet depots. Walk-in GRP kiosks are increasingly used for this purpose, offering a weatherproof, vandal-resistant outer shell that can be finished to project or brand specifications. Design load certification means they can be installed without specialist foundations in most ground conditions.
GRP vs Steel — Why GRP Wins
| Property | GRP (Fibreglass) | Painted Steel |
|---|---|---|
| Corrosion resistance | Immune | Rusts without maintenance |
| Weight | ~60% lighter than steel | Heavy; requires heavier crane |
| RF transparency | Signal-transparent (telecoms-safe) | Blocks RF signal |
| Repainting | Never required | Every 5–10 years |
| Conductivity | Non-conductive — electrically safe | Conductive |
| Fire rating | Class 2 (30 min) available | Available |
| 20-year cost | Lower — zero maintenance | Higher — ongoing upkeep |
